Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Greetings,

I have a judgments in Virginia (2001). I understand the statute of limitations is 10 years, but in 2005 the law was change so that the judgment could be renewed for another 10. Is this correct?

If so, does this new law that took effect in 2005 apply to my 2001 judgment or only to a judgment after 2005?

Please clarify this. When will my 2001 judgment expire and I will be free from collection without any possibility of renewal. Thank you so much!

Yes, any Virginia General District Court judgment now being carried on the books as valid for 10 years, may be renewed for another 10. (Circuit Court judgments are good for 20 years and may be renewed for 20.)

2021 if renewed in 2011.
