Re: homestead deed
A homestead exemption protects $5,000 of the debtor's personal or real property (plus $500 for each dependant). However, it requires filing a homestead deed in court.

You can file a homestead deed to stop a property garnishment, but it won't help with a wage garnishment. Furthermore, it may not be the best approach to do this, as you may need that exemption for other assets if you need to file bankruptcy. You should consult with a bankuptcy lawyer immediately, before doing anything.
