hospital collections
Cancer patient - has surgery - no insurance - own home and small business - told hospital had no insurance - now at home - working - hospital wants money - patient wants to pay but cannot pay 1200/month or 800/month - can hospital suggest or demand he sell business and home to pay??

You are rushing past some of the earlier questions that need to be explored, like what the hospital did or did not agree to in terms of what money you actually owe. But a creditor cannot suggest or demand that you do anything until they go to court and get an official judgment against you. However, once they start down that road there may be nothing you can do to stop it. So exploring bankruptcy may be the best option. On the other hand, often threatening bankrputcy (if it is believable under your circumstances) is a very powerful tool in getting a creditor to negotiate something you can afford, rather than you filing for bankruptcy.

Visit a bankruptcy attorney and provide him or her with information about your income, assets, and debts. You might (or might not) be eligible for a Chapter 13 plan which might possibly help protect your home and business from creditors.
