Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

My husband just received a garnishment summons for a medical debt from a surgery in June of 1999. This debt has not shown up on his credit report ever and we have never received any other information about it. Is there a Statute of Limitations that would keep him from having to pay this?

Yes, there well could be an applicable statute of limitations (SOL) on this kind of debt and your husband would seem well advised to arrange for a consultation with an attorney who can advise him on this matter. (The SOL in Virginia on written contracts is normally five years.)
