Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Identity theft

I have recently found that a young man from my high school used my personal information to open a cellular phone account. He never paid his bill and now I have an 800 dollar outstanding balance that has been sold to a collections agency. My question is: Do I have to pay this bill legally or is there any thing I can do to have it removed from my credit report without cost?

Re: Identity theft

If you've filed no report with the police this far regarding the matter nor disputed the charge with the service provider, you'll likely have to pay it.

As to the credit report, your only option now may be to provide your written account(up to 250 words) to the three major credit reporting agencies as to how this unauthorized charge was made on your account.
