Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia
In January I found our I had uterian cancer, We are out of work at this time and no insurance. The doctor said I couldn't wait to have the surgery. So I went ahead. We told them our situation up front and that we couldn't pay now but that we would work with them to pay it. We do have some money in the bank because we were planning ahead while we were working in case the layoff occured. It did and then the cancer. The mistake is that I didn't lie about having some money in the bank.
My question is: If I am making payment to every one that I owe what can they do? I am not paying what they want but every one is getting something out of what I budgeted?
Next question is if they deceide to take the next step will it only be on my credit or my husbands as well?

Each of your creditors for which you are in arrears in your payments could sue you (and your husband if he's responsible as well) and obtain a judgment against the two of you which might then be used to file a lien in order
to seize your assets(that could include your home as well as other property).
And, if your husband shares in any responsibility for these debts and they're
reported to the CRA's, then, yes, his credit could also be adversely affected.
