How long do judgements remain on your record and

how do they affect property given or left to you

by a family member?

Judgments are public records forever. They are enforceable for 20 years in Va., and renewable indefinitely. A judgment is a lien on all property, whether acquired before or after the judgment, in any county in which it is docketed. This includes inherited property.
