Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Can a law office trying to collect a debt for another company freeze your accounts, etc? We took out an online pay day loan over a year ago and apparently unknown to us still owe them money. This law firm out of upstate NY is claiming that they can and will do that if we do not pay up immediately.

Assuming that you and your accounts are in Virginia and the law firm is only in New York and has not retained Virginia counsel to assist with the matter, then it is unlikely(in my opinion) that the firm would be able to "freeze your accounts".
