Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Do I need a lawyer?

I am being sued by a former roommate for bills that she claims we had a ''verbal contract'' to split. When the agreement was made, we were to be the only 2 people living in the house. I lived with her for the first two months of a 7 month lease, and paid my half of the rent and bills. During that time, it became difficult to live with her for unrelated reasons, so I moved out. I continued to pay my half of the rent for the remainder of the lease. However, when I moved out, she moved 3 other people in, and still expected me to pay half of the bills, which I refused to do. I never agreed to pay bills that 4 other people were running up. My name was not on any of the bills, only the lease, which I did pay. I am wondering if she has a legal case against me, and if this is something that I will need an attorney to defend me against.

From the facts you state your roommate does not have much of an argument. However, if she sues hire an attorney. An attorney would help end this matter quicker than you could on your own.
