am i liable to pay for a newspaper subscription after my term expires and they continue to deliver? i paid for one year only. they continued to deliver for 3 months after that. they say that i owe for the additional 3 months because it was their "grace period". thank you.

Yes, very likely so(in my opinion), if this so-called "grace period" was included as a provision in your initial subscription agreement.
