how long does a company have to go after you, for a past due bill? The bill was from the year 2003

Nine years should be well beyond the applicable Virginia statute of limitations for a debt of this kind and unless this company or its predecessor in interest secured an enforceable judgment against you within the appropriate timeframe, this debt is now unlikely to be legally collectible.
