Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Making settlement before trial

This is in response to an answer I received previously regarding being sued by a credit card company. I was told to try getting a settlement agreement before my case is called at trial. Well, what if that is not possible? Is it ok to ask for a settlement during the hearing itself? Do I wait until they're awarded a judgment (which is highly likely)? What is the best way to avoid garnishment?

Re: Making settlement before trial

If you cannot reach an agreement before your case goes to trial, the case would then go forward and(assuming you owe the money claimed), a judgment would likely be entered against you and in favor of your creditor. After the trial has ended, you could then attempt to negotiate with the creditor how you would pay this judgment in order to avoid having your wages garnished.
