Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Medical Bill Collections

Could you please advise if a surviving wife is responsible for deceased no estate husbands hospital / medical bills in the state of Virginia. She never signed the hospital admission forms and the physicians who saw the patient were called in from the hospital as consultants.

Husband NEVER had a job and everything is only in wife's name.

Re: Medical Bill Collections

A spouse has the duty to support the other spouse and can be liable for the deceased spouse's medical bills under the "doctrine of necessities". There are exceptions, so you should consult with a VA lawyer regarding your specific situation.
