Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

medical bill surfaced 2.5 years after person's death

my mom passed away in feb 05 and ton of medical bills were paid (out of her 'estate', by me) thru a specific collection agency. that was like, 2 years ago.

well, i just received a letter from that same collection agency stating that a new bill has surfaced from the same hospital for $350.00.

can bills just pop up at any time like this? is there any time limit that they have to collect? i need to respond to them in writing, but i first want to know where i stand.

thanks.

Re: medical bill surfaced 2.5 years after person's death

If your mother's estate has now been closed and there are no further undistributed assets available to pay such bills, the collection agency should be informed of that fact and that their claim is now too late to be acted upon.
