Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia
medical expense liability
My elderly mother has no health insurance and will be coming to live with me and my husband. She will not have health insurance for a while and I am counting on the free clinic for emergency help. My husband is concerned that the hospital will expect us to pay and we will be ruined. How do we protect our assets in case of a medical emergency?

Re: medical expense liability
Unless you sign papers guaranteeing payment of these medical expenses of your elderely mother, neither you nor your husband can be held responsible for paying them irrespective of the fact that your mother happens to be residing with you.
