Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

mentally ill, is there anything I can to freeze interest on collection debt?

I haven't been able to work for 2 years due to dysthymic disorder. I have been taking my meds + therapy as prescribed & have taken a series of tests my psychiatrist has ordered since he feels I also have a physical problem causing the exhaustion. I my currently applying for medical assistance through a college to get a sleep study done my doctor has ordered. Today I was taken to court by a debt collector for an unpaid CC bill. My question is this: is there any way that I can get a court order or something to stop all the interest (6 percent) incurring until I am able to work? I did bring in a letter today stating that I am actively seeking treatment & am unable to work but that seemed to have no bearing on this when presented to the judge. When I explained the situation to the collector he suggested that I apply for disability which I have not sought as of yet. Would appreciate any help on this matter.

No, I am unaware of anything that you could file with the court to stop the interest on your judgment from accruing under these circumstances.

However, you could always attempt to negotiate such a matter with your judgment creditor.
