Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia
Minor signing legal document
My son, signed an agreement with a fitness center for 3 months of personal training when he was 17 years old. He did not have my permission and the sessions total $1600. Can we have this agreement voided or is he obligated to pay?

Re: Minor signing legal document
Yes, your son being a minor at the time he signed this contract, which would seem to have nothing to do with securing what the law calls the necessaries of life, should be able to disaffirm it by simply sending the fitness center a letter with the necessary identifying information stating his wish to exercise his right as a minor to now withdraw from or void this particular contract. (He should keep a copy of this letter and the voided contract for his records in case something regarding the matter should develop in the future.)
