Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Missed civil hearing

I missed a hearing in a civil case brought by my ethically challenged ex-landlord. I missed it partly because my car's transmission is being fixed, but also because of depression I've suffered from living with my emotionally disturbed ex-wife.

How can I safely request a re-hearing and on what grounds? Is this something I can safely request myself or is the advice of an attorney critical in doing so?

Re: Missed civil hearing

Contact the clerk's office of the court which had responsibility for the hearing and explain matters to them and ask specifically what needs to be done to have a rehearing in the matter(or to set aside/vacate a judgment which may have already been entered against you).
