Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

My mom and dad are seperated, she has incurred alot of debt, can they take his savings and/or cds for her debt? They are in his name and my name(daughter) only? Is their anything besides social security that is safe from collections?

If your father's savings and certificates of deposit are held as separate property from your mother and are not subject to joint ownership or her marital claims, then they should be safe from any collection actions that might possibly be initiated against them by her creditors.
