Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

nonsuit confusion

back in 2004 we went to court over a vehicle reposession. The plaintiff did a nonsuit and i understand that they had 6 months to carry us back to court which they never did. They immediately updated my husbands credit report as a charge off and since then the DEBT has gone through 6 or 7 different law firms. Can they nonsuit, charge off and turn the debt over to another attorney?

Re: nonsuit confusion

They can (and obviously have) but that doesn't mean that the debt is not now barred by the statute of limitations.
