Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia
How to
I would like to your opinions of my case and whether any of you can assist me in enforcing my judgment?
I recently won a judgment in the District Court of Maryland for approximately $12,700.00. The damages occurred in Maryland, and the judgment debtor was living in Md. at the time. Over the past year and a half, the debtor has used 4 different addresses, 2 in Maryland and 2 in Washington DC.
The debtor is employed by Verizon Virginia, Inc. and on Sept 22nd, a Writ of Garnishment was granted and served (on Robert Woltz, 600 E Main St., Richmond Va.). Verizon has responded with a ''Answer on Special Appearance'' letter, sent on Sept. 29th, claiming that the Md. Court has no jurisdiction.
I have researched and discovered that I should have the judgment domesticated in a Virginia Court. Will domesticating the judgment improve my chances of enforcing the garnishment?

Re: How to
Yes, you need to domesticate your judgment in VA. Enforcement process from one state is generally not enforceable in another. Once you domesticate it, you can have a Virginia garnishmet issued.
