Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Owe Money

Hi, I owe money to a vendor of my business. But the vendor had made me sign a personal promissory note on the money owed. My business has closed and I am unable to pay back his money at this time. I received a summons and am supposed to reply to the summons within 21 days... not sure of what papers I need to file to the clerks office...

Also, couple days later, I received a notice of a ''scheduling conference'' for july... what is this?

Re: Owe Money

It would appear that you're being sued for a sizeable sum of money in then circuit court and, therefore, you must file what's called an ANSWER to the plaintiff's COMPLAINT within 21 days of its receipt.

A scheduling conference is typically set about a month or so ahead of the trial to determine whether the parties might settle the matter without the necessity of having a trial.
