Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Paying a Debt

My debt on a credit card was passed on to collections. The person that I spoke with from collections explained that the creditor was going to sue me if I did not pay the entire debt within the matter of a week. He also told me that a payment plan was impossible and when I asked for a written statement he said he could only provide one after I paid the debt. He is threatening to hand my case to a attorney if I call one more time, how can I make sure that my money is going to the right place??

Re: Paying a Debt

Pay only by check and keep careful records (including copies of the cashed checks) of all such payments independent of any record provided by the collection agency.
