Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

I received a warrant in debt from a credit card company. There is no doubt I owe the money, and would like to settle out of court for a payment plan. The reason for the lack of payment thus far is my husband's loss of income. I realize it is late in the game, and I should have established this payment plan directly with the company long ago, but could not afford any payment at the time. I was promoted and received a raise, and desperately want to pay down the debt I owe. Is there any way to get the law firm to work with me on a payment plan I can manage, rather than have them garnish my wages for an amount of their choosing? I would prefer not to miss work to appear in court, and would like to take the steps necessary to avoid court and set up a payment plan.
