Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia
How to remove a settled judgment from credit report before 7 years??
I am in the process of settling an old debt with the lawyers representing the credit card company. I told them that I would pay off the debt in exchange for them removing the judgement from my credit report.
They said that because it already went to court (where I admitted to owing the debt) and is a judgement against me, it cannot be removed from my report. They said that it has to stay on there for 7 years.
My question is:
Is there anyway possible to remove a settled judgement from my credit report? Are they telling the truth, that they cannot do it, or DO they have the power to remove it?
Please hurry because I must settle by the end of October.
Thank you.

You have been given correct information i.e., the credit card company is powerless to remove the negative information regarding the judgment from your credit report since this capability lies strictly within the purview of the credit reporting agency.
You are, however, entitled to record your own version of the facts with any updated information (up to 250 words) regarding the adverse item on your report, and certainly should do so if the judgment has been satisfied---along with any other mitigating information.
Your 250 word version of the facts should be sent directly to at least three of the major credit reporting agencies.
