Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Rent To Own Agreement

I am currently under a rent to own contract, since I have started my contract i have always been on time and this week I was 1 day late and they called leaving harrassing messages, and calling family members. They said they were going to file theft and grand larceny charges on me if I do not return furniture, Is that true Can they? Do they have to go through a legal process to get the furniture back? Is it civil or criminal? Mind you there is a written contract.

Re: Rent To Own Agreement

Better see an attorney ASAP who is knowledgeable and experienced with such matters. (Rent to own land contracts are a notoriously ill-advised way to acquire ownership of real property, and quite often the would be purchasers of such property end up on the "short end of the stick"[bargain?], so to speak.)

Yes, the time honored admonition, CAVEAT EMPTOR (buyer beware), applies very much to these kinds of contracts.
