Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Repayment of Gifts

I was involved in a long distance OH/VA relationship. Me in OH, my ex lives in VA. The relationshiop involved extensive traveling and depleted me financially. During our relationship, my ex paid two car payments for me, totaling $800. My ex is now demanding repayment and threatening legal collection of the money for the car payments, although I have the cards and letters expressing the money given was ''OUR'' money and was presented without need of repayment. Can I be sued or be held legally responsible for this money?

Re: Repayment of Gifts

It is highly unlikey that she will recover anything as it appears to be a gift. But, I would counterclaim for all of the money you have paid on her debts.

Good Luck!!!
