statue of limitations

10 to 11 yrs ago a medical claim was given to a collection attorney. He filed for a judgment 3 yr's later. I don't recognize the hospital and am tryng 2 buy a home. I hv nt been notifyd until this appeared on my credit report. Can he do that?

If the collection attorney filed within the statute of limitations(five years for a written contract) and you were given proper notice of the suit but didn't bother to contest it, then, yes, it's all probably quite legal.
