Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Statute of limitations for judgements

I defaulted on a unsecured bank loan and a judgement was placed against me in 1991. The account has now been placed with a collection agency. The collection agency has now placed this on my credit report, the date assigned and the date of last activity is 5/97.

How long can the creditor actively pursue (garnishing wages, bank accounts) recovering this debt? What is the statute of limitations for a creditor to collect a judgement and can it be extended by placing the debt with a collection agency?
