sued for charged off credit card

a third party debt collector bought a charged off credit account that i had a $300 dollar limit and is trying to sue me for $2000. can they?

Sure, they can sue (as almost anyone can). However, whether they will be able to obtain a judgment against you for that amount will depend upon many factors.
