Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia
Threats from a collector
Made simpl:
Brother in law recieveda call in regards to husband. Person claimed that if husband didn't call back in 48 hrs, marshalls would be looking to pick him up. We called the number back, they saud the were going to have husband charged and picked up on a debit they say was from 1990, had his fathers addresses etc. (fathjer-son, same name) we explained it was his fahters address on account and father had passed in 2004, he then accussed my husband of being a carrear criminal and stated he is commiting fraud, and any judge would make him pay the debit based on they would see him as a criminal( Husband served two yers for Domestic abuse) We tried to explain, it wasn't husbands bill, that husband was living in DC w/mother in 1990. and that account had all fathers info. Still, the threatened that if we didn't pay the debit, the marshalls would be coming to our home. What can we do?

Re: Threats from a collector
If all that you claim is true, it's likely that you would have viable claim(s) against this alleged bill collector for numerous violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA)and, perhaps, other related federal and state statutes as well.
