Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Type your question here...I was given $2000 by a family friend that was sent via western union. There was no contract signed stating that I had to pay this individual back. He is now stating that he is going to take me to court bevause i have not made an effort to pay him back. I know that i can be taken to court, but my question is do i need a lawyer and will it hold up in court.

No, you do not need a lawyer--not yet, anyway. (Nevertheless, it might, of course, be advisable, once suit is filed.)

If such actually occurs, the family friend's claim is very likely to "hold up in court" unless you can present credible evidence that this $2000 "sent via western union" was clearly a gift to you with, obviously, no requirement of repayment.
