Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

I was wondering if I had grounds to collect money from a verbal agreement. I paid off my ex boyfriend's restitution so he could be off of probation. We agreed he would pay off the loan I took out each month. The check that I gave his probation officer was a personal check in my name. After we broke up he refused to pay me back. I was just wondering if there is any way that I can claim the money that is mine.

Yes, you can sue this former boyfriend in small claims court for whatever

he owes you up to $5K.
