Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

hello i need some advice on how to better assit my younger cousin who is currentl;y in concerated due to giving a simple ride to some of his friend that turned ugly. to start off my cusin is a senior in high school and african american male who has college grants and a very bright future he resides in a poverty stricken area that limits his mental growth due to his association with friends who don't share similar view,. honestly my cusin is a follower and very shy at time. just last week i was informed he has been arrested on 2 counts robbery, a possion of a armed weapon, and eluding the police. when his mother asked the detective on his finale analysis of the situatiuon he explained the weapon belong to the other suspect (2 of his friends) he never had a gun, he was the river but as far as my young cusin explains he didn't know the guys where robbing someone and his friends got into the car and he was frightend so he ran.... and was chased by police. he explains it was out of fear and that he didn't want his moms car to gert impounded and that hjer was afraid. he explains he never tried to rob anyone just in the wrong area at the wrong time. now i don't know what to do and i don't know how to help him. he court hearing is january the 2nd for bail. please any information would be nice.
