Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

I allowed a cursory search of apartment. Freely gave what the law wanted. Left us in our home but still left behind stuff they were searching for.....drug paraphanalia and an illegal handgun. Did they mess up,?

Well, yes, so it would seem, and cursory would also seem quite the correct adjectival modifier

to describe this kind of a so-called search of a premises by law enforcement.
