Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

appealing to get a reduced sentence

My son was sentenced to 5 years in prison on drug charges. The guidelines for him were 6 - 18 months. He had a court appointed lawyer who wont return my calls. How do I apply for a reduced sentence. Except for having one pill in his pocket and being arrested in august of 06 my son had stayed out of trouble. Then in december of 06 he got caught selling pills. The guy who narced on him had drug, robbry, and counterfitting charges against him and only got 1yr 9 months. A man in jail with my son

killed someone and only got 3 years. His lawyer seemed very nice but wont return my calls. Can you tell mewhat I need to do or who to contact for help.

Re: appealing to get a reduced sentence

You could consider writing a letter to the judge who sentenced your son, explaining that apparently your son's

defense counsel now is refusing to return your phone calls and, consequently, you would like to know what, if any, actions could now be taken or presented to the court to secure a reduction in his sentence.
