If someone asks you to meet them to fight and you do can you be convicted of assault?

Yes, that can always be a possibility with this kind of a
"meeting", depending, of course, on how this fight actually develops between the two participants.
Therefore, bearing the above in mind, a reasonably prudent
man should always decline such invitations (in my opinion).
