Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

An assault

My friend was assaulted outside a bar by a group of unknown assailants. The security guards and bar owner will not cooperate or give details. Also, known witnesses will not cooperate. Is there any legal method to force them to cooperate? Also, can I call hospitals to ask if someone came in with a injured hand the night of the incident?

Re: An assault

It is not your job but rather that of the local police and prosecutor's office to conduct an investigation of the crime perpetrated against your friend and to have witness subpoenas issued, if appropriate.

You could, of course, call any hospital you wish regarding the inquiry which you've suggested, but even if a hospital was willing to release that particualar information to you, it would not necessarily be probative evidence of anything related to the crime.
