Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia
blackmail /extortion
I have read that in some states attempting to blackmail somebody (even though you did not go through with it eventually)is punishable by fine of imrpisonment?
Is Virginia one of those states? If so, what is the statute of limitations?
Thank you

Re: blackmail /extortion
Attempts in Virginia to commit noncapital felonies such as extortion(a Class 5 felony)where the maximum prescribed punishment is less than 20 years are punished as Class 6 felonies (1 to 5 years in the penitentiary or 12 months in jail at the discretion of the jury or court and a fine up to $2500, either or both).
There is no statute of limitations on felonies in Virginia.
