Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia
my boyfriend was arrested for a violent felony. Now looking back i feel he has a personality disorder and needs help. can he get the charges changed if he is diagnosed with such. he has not been convicted or had a court date yet. but he is a good man, i fear that his temper and inability to control himself when angry is due to this. i have noticed changes in him over the years before this happened. it seems the older he gets the worse he gets. he is remorseful for what he has done. is there any way to keep him from going to jail for years and years?

All questions best addressed to the competent criminal defense counsel who hopefully is representing your boyfriend by now in this unfortunate matter (in my opinion).
It's possible that as part of a plea offer that the
the Commonwealth might allow him to plead guilty
to a lesser charge if such might be available under the relevant facts
and law of his particular case.
If you could afford to hire a person to do a forensic psychological, psychiatric evaluation... a party not biased toward the prosecution....you may be able to use to mitigate sentence.
