Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

Check Fraud - Am I liable?

My friend and I (both 17 years old) were selling t-shirts at our school for $15 a piece. Several checks were written, and my friend was holding onto all of them. He gave me the two checks written in my name, one for $15 one for $115. He told me the $115 was for 8 shirts with a $5 discount. I had no reason not to believe him, so I cashed the checks. The next day I was informed by the girl that wrote the $115 check that it was truely written for only $15. I immediately repaid her the $100 difference, but herself and her mother have gone to the police and will press charges. Check fraud was committed, but I had no part in it, but I know there is no way to prove that my friend did it. What do I do?

Better get a criminal defense lawyer to represent you in this matter. (If you or your parent[s]cannot afford to hire an attorney, whenever you're formally charged, you should request that the court appoint you a criminal defense counsel.)
