Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia
Help with chrages?
My friend stole a labtop at the airport that was just sitting on the floor. So he took it when he returned hom there was plice and a detective waiting there for him. They told him there would be no charges if he wuld give the computer back. So he is going to but is wondering if the man does decide to press charges what will happen? Please help asap...

If the theft has already been reported to law enforcement authorities, it will then be up to the prosecutor's office rather than the victim to decide whether "charges will be pressed" and the matter prosecuted.
