what circumstances are required for a police officer to have probable cause for searching one's unnoccupied and secured vehicle?

That the officer (or his drug detecting hound) supposedly detected the odoriferous scent of marijuana drifting through one of the vehicle's windows that supposedly was slightly cracked to the open air could be one.
