Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

court case

My wife has a serious mental condition and has to take alot of medication. Every so often her medicine has to be adjusted and while this adjustment is going on her behavior gets bad and this time she got into trouble. When the case went to court, one judge excused himself because he was one of her dad's friends. Another judge came in and stated he did not know my wife and it turns out he did (he worked with my wife's dad for 10 or more years and they did not get along. He found my wife guilty. Can this be considered a mistrial? What can I do about this?

Re: court case

So, notwithstanding this particular background of this judge who presided over your wife's criminal trial, how was his particular bias against your wife manifested during the course of the trial and/or in the judge's decision when it was over?

And, if in fact there was such bias apparent, why hasn't the judge's decision been appealed to the higher court?
