what is a court summons? Is there a case number?

What are my rights? Should the officer who wrote the

summons have told me?

A court summons is just that, i.e., legal paperwork usually served by a law enforcement officer (or sometimes via USPS) which requires the person(defendant) served with the summons to appear at a particular date and time in the particular court referenced in the summons in order to answer or respond to the charge(s) referenced therein.

Yes, there will usually be a case number referenced at the top of the summons.

No, since you were not arrested but instead served with the summons, the officer was under no obligation to advise you of your Miranda rights.
