Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

my friend came to visit me from alabama. i live in virginia. while in va my friend was cought with an ounce of weed and 9 ectacy pills.

we bailed him out of jail without a bail bondsman and paid the full 1000$ in cash.someone told him that people cought with x go to jail for a long time. hes planning on going back to alabama and living near where he used to live. with no bail owed, do they go looking for him? and if not why shouldnt he just go back? And if he does run how long will it be until his warrents go away?

If the drugs constitute felony charge(s), and your friend doesn't return to Virginia to settle the matter, Commonwealth authorities may well attempt to have him extradited from Alabama. (I'm aware of a case awhile back where they extradited someone from Louisiana for back child support.)

Virginia felony warrants rarely "go away" and may persist in various law enforcement databases quite literally for years.
