Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

criminal law dropping charges

i was charged with simple assault and a felony destruction of property from an ex after a disagreement because she was angry and wanted to scare me... i have been in prison before and am currently on parole but havent been in any trouble in 5 years none at all... she feels guilty because i have 18 yrs over my head a daughter and a good job and she doesnt want to see me get in trouble.... her gear shift in her car was broken during the argument by her and i tried to fix it and broke it more and thats why she was mad and called the cops and said i did it... i have decided to pay for the damage and in turn she has decided to do everything she can to have the charges dropped she is in the process of contacting the officer to let him know the damage is under 1000 dollars to get it dropped to a misdeamenor.... but the whole problem is if i get convicted of either charge i will be violated even though i am so close to gettin off parole... what are the right steps we would have to take for this to just go away... my court date is friday the 5th to see if i am going to seek counsel or not but would like to take care of this before hand... please help me in any way you can i am a productive citizen and have turned my life around.. god bless

Already answered. Get yourself an attorney; the case is not going to be dropped just because you and your ex would now like "for this to just go away."
