Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia
How are criminal warrants served in Virginia? I have a warrant against a person for profanity and abuse by cell phone which has not been served and it has been over two weeks. The reason this concerns me is that I will be in court with the person for other charges in about two weeks, and was hoping the warrant would be served before that time and the judge would have the information about the second charge. When I called Fugutive Warrants I was told that they "don't serve". (?????) Then I asked if a notice in the mail to would be sent to the person about the outstanding warrant, I was told notices areen't mailed - this, I know, is not correct, as I have received notice in this way. When I questioned further, I was told that the person could be served in the course of a routine traffic stop, or someone could see his name on the outstanding warrant list and let him know. (another ??????) Long story, but I would like to know how a warrant is served for a Class 1 misdemeanor in the State of Virginia.
