Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

Dismissing charges

The Commonwealth of Virginia filed charges against my ex boyfriend for Assault & Battery and Entering a house to commit assault & battery. I currently do not want to pursue the charges anymore and I would like to know what steps to take to have the charges dismissed? Should I write a letter addressing the court and the common wealth attorney? The reason behind me wanting to have the charges dismissed is that I wasn't aware of what they were charging him with until after he was already arrested and charged. I feel that what they charged him with was a little extreme. Please help!

Re: Dismissing charges

You could certainly now write a letter to the prosecutor(assistant commonwealth's attorney) assigned to prosecute the case and express your opinion as to the charges, but as to whether the charges will be dismissed would be up to the local office of the Commonwealth's Attorney rather than you.
