Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

Domestic Violence Question

I was called by my mother to come over to my house one night. When I arrived with my wife, my mother led me into the bedroom where she accused me of stealing a watch from her. When I told her that I had not seen the watch, she then attacked me by scratching and slapping my face. I smacked her hands away which resulted in her losing balance and falling over. She called the cops and went to the hospital. When the cops arrived at the hospital, she had no marks on her anywhere and had suffered no injury, even though she told the cops that I punched her in the face. She refused to press any charges against me but is now telling me (three months later) that if I do not pay her hospital bills that she will press charges against me and have me charged with domestic assault since she has up to a year to do so. She has been to the emergency room twelve times in the last year and has been treated for severe depression for the last twenty years. What should I do? We both have clean records with no type of offenses.

Re: Domestic Violence Question

Mother and son should reconcile, with the one who is sound of mind and suffering from no mental illness or defect making the first move towards that objective.
